Discover the world of the royal city. From the entrance pavilion to the keep, beyond the barbican, visitors are plunged into the prison world of the Middle Ages: the Louis XI tower, the hammers, the question room, the graffiti room, the dungeons, the fortifications and the underground passages... Nearby is the Collégiale St-Ours. Also surprising is the roof of its nave, made up of two octagonal pyramids known as ‘dubes’ and built around 1165. The collegiate church of Saint-Ours also houses the marble tomb of Agnès Sorel, favourite of King Charles VII.
Fortress of Angles sur l'Anglin (50km)
The impressive 11th-century fortress of Angles sur l'Anglin rises more than 40 metres above the waters of the Anglin. Today, majestic ruins and a unique atmosphere remain from its tormented life. From the top of one of the towers, you can admire a beautiful panorama of the Anglin valley, including the Sainte-Croix district with its superb flat-tiled houses and Romanesque church.
